When you buy from a dealer, most of the paperwork is handled for you. Here's what to expect in Pennsylvania.
What the dealer usually handles
- Title transfer and registration paperwork with the state
- Temporary registration so you can drive home
- Collecting sales tax and government fees at signing
Sales tax
Pennsylvania sales tax and any local taxes are collected at signing. In many states a trade-in lowers the taxable amount — ask us how it works here.
Fees you'll see
Title, registration and lien-recording fees are set by the state. Ask for an out-the-door price and you'll see every number before you sign.
Insurance first
You'll need proof of insurance before you drive away. Financed vehicles usually require full coverage — have your agent's number handy.
Plates
If you're transferring a plate from a vehicle you're trading or selling, bring your registration card. Ask us how plates are issued for your purchase.
